What Is OG?
OG is described as a language-based, multisensory, structured, sequential, cumulative, cognitive and flexible approach to helping students become confident readers, writers and life-long learners. The critical elements that make OG effective for ALL students include: personalized, multisensory, diagnostic/prescriptive, direct, systematic, linguistic, systematic/structured, sequential/incremental/cumulative, continuous feedback/positive reinforcement, cognitive and emotionally sound.
OG Training Information
RCF facilitates training of teachers in Orton-Gillingham, which is considered the gold standard in literacy instruction for ALL students and vital for students with dyslexia. The training we provide is the best-of-the-best through a Fellow in the Orton-Gillingham Academy (formerly known as the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators/AOGPE). Currently, RCF offers both the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator training (first 30 hours) and the Orton-Gillingham Associate Level Training (second 30 hours). The Classroom Educator training focuses on the principles and fundamentals of the Orton-Gillingham Approach. This class will provide an introductory understanding of dyslexia, characteristics of the dyslexic learner, specific procedures for teaching these students primarily in reading and spelling, and the foundation for class or small group assessment and lesson planning.
The Associate Level training has an application process to be accepted. This course focuses on analyzing testing data, vocabulary development, writing development, and Latin morphology. It is relevant for all educators, but especially for individuals working with students with dyslexia and/or older students (Grades 4 and up). Completion of the Classroom Educator course through an OGA Fellow is a mandatory prerequisite.
Included with training is the implementation support from the OG Implementation Team. This consists of meetings and school visits if you are local to Orange County, FL. Our team is able to provide virtual support if you are not in our geographic location.
How Much Does it Cost?
Traditionally OG training can be costly – making it inaccessible to most educators and parents. RCF is committed to making OG training accessible to all educators so that ALL children are afforded the fundamental right to learn to read, write and spell. RCF does this by offering OG training for FREE (with a $50 security deposit that will be refunded in full once you have completed the training) to public school educators who can provide proof of current employment and support from their administration that they will be able to implement what they learn in their classroom. RCF provides OG training to all other attendees for a private pay cost of $200 per person. Both public and private educators are provided with an OG training manual and a Google Drive folder with resources to help you get started.
How Do I Register?
To register for an OG Training, please make sure to create an account with our registration system first. Once you have created an account, you will be able to register for upcoming events or trainings.
If a training is already full, you are encouraged to register for the waitlist. If you are selected from the waitlist, you will be notified via e-mail.
Teacher University
Teacher University is a free monthly webinar held via Zoom which covers best practices, gives additional resources, and presents up-to-date research on a different topic each month. These are typically held the third Wednesday of each month during the school year. While it is not a requirement to have been trained in OG in order to attend Teacher University webinars, it is helpful.
